Els told me about receiving the key to the city by the Denver Mayor Mc Nichols. I was away at the military during this time, but perhaps this picture corroborates the story she had told me?

Els and Fred Machado. They wed in 1981 and stayed married until 1986.
Here Els is traveling to Puerto Rico. She had traveled to Panama in 1979 and she loved the Caribbean. Fred was now her new traveling companion.

Here Els was on a cruise down the Nile river. Els was a brave woman. There had been a rash of terrorist incidents in the Middle East. However, Els went on traveling to the area. In fact, a TWA airlines plane was hijacked while she was there. The hijacked flight was the exact flight she had taken from Athens to Cairo. Only this time Els was traveling from Cairo to Athens when it happened. When she arrived at the Athens airport, she said it was full of soldiers and police forces with machine guns at the ready. at the time she had no clue what had happened, but she would soon learn when she landed in London to catch her connecting flight to the US.
Els loved the cruise-sponsored activities. She met a guy during this cruise and they had a little fling. Els was very hush-hush about it though.
Here Els is posing riding a camel. The original photo had her cruise roommate, a racist woman who kept making remarks about the dirty brown people. So after Els got back to Denver, I used Photoshop to erase the woman and not have mom’s memories ruined. “Bye Felicia!”
Here Elsie posses by an Egyptian carving. This was one of her favorite trips. I got lucky, when she returned to Denver, I picked her up from the airport and got first pick of the suitcase full of souvenirs. Els was glowing after this trip.

It’s odd that there are no pics of Elsie during these last years of the 1980s.

Elsie traveled to Europe with her friend Sharon. They were in Germany when the Berlin Wall was being torn down and dismantled. here she poses at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
Here Els poses in Venice, Italy. She had a great time and you can see evidence of this fact by the huge smile on her face. Els was a born traveler.
