According to Vaughn (1986), there are two labels for people going through a breakup. The person who initiates the breakup, she labels the “Initiator.” The person who is getting broken up with, Vaughn labeled as the “partner.”
Although these labels are somewhat vague, and can have other meaning in other narratives, here they are used to illustrate her points as well as points made by others and myself. Initiators “give the hoot.” Partner “get the boot.”
