PROPS

Props are items that actors use to make their performances more believable. In other words, props help enhance the believability of a person’s performance in any given role. In short, Goffman says that a prop helps a person successfully enact their chosen role in order to make it appear more authentic or genuine. And when this happens, the person successfully enacting their chosen role will receive the desired outcome that motivated then to choose and perform that role.

Props can be a policeman’s badge and gun. A prop can also be an expensive automobile. Then again, a prop may be an imitation full head of hair. Props can also be body implants that enhance a person’s breasts; their pecks; and even their booty. If the item is used to help make an act more believable, then it is considered a prop.
